Evermore Summary

Seventeen-year-old Ever had the perfect life back in Eugene, Oregon. She had a loving family, great friends, and good looks. But all that changed when one fatal car accident tore her family apart. On the brink of death, Ever inadvertently chose to stay while the rest of her family crossed over. Now, not only is she orphaned, but she has unwanted psychic powers that allow her to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Too Many Thoughts

Ever moves in with her Aunt Sabine in California, where she forgoes her popularity in favour of baggy sweatshirts, dark sunglasses and an iPod to drown out the constant hum of other people’s thoughts. Her only two friends are Haven, a girl who tries any and every fad just to get attention; and Miles, an openly gay guy who is rather boy crazy. Especially when a new boy shows up at school—the dark and mysterious Damen.

Tall, Dark and Handsome

Damen is the talk of the school. At first, Ever wants nothing to do with him. But when she finally looks at him for the first time—really looks at him—she realizes that he’s special. She can’t read his thoughts. Being around him becomes a welcome break from the endless drivel running through some people’s minds. And it certainly helps that he’s flawlessly good looking.

The Other Woman

Haven couldn’t be more jealous of Ever’s budding relationship with Damen, especially since she “called him” when he first arrived at school. But Ever can’t deny her feelings. Unfortunately, a relationship with Damen isn’t a plain and simple matter. His friend Drina seems to want more than just friendship with Damen. And she’s become a bad influence on Ever’s impressionable best friend, Haven. Haven is dressing like Drina, dying her hair the same color as Drina’s, even getting the same tattoo as Drina.

Damen’s Secret

One day, Ever learns that there is something different about Damen. Something that explains why he showers her with red tulips that seem to come out of nowhere, why he can ditch school and never get caught, why he refuses to invite Ever to his house. And why Ever can’t hear his thoughts. But learning Damen’s secret (not to mention communicating with her dead sister) is only half of her problems.

Evermore Book Review

In the decade of the vampires-werewolves-ghosts-immortals-or-anything-paranormal phenomenon, Evermore kind of blends in. The story doesn’t offer a whole lot of substance beyond the immediate plot, but that is what has made paranormal teen books so successful. Their simple writing styles and formulaic plots appeal to almost all ages, and never seem to bore the target audience. Evermore has enough energy to keep reader’s absorbed and will be loved by all those who are fascinated by love interests with flawless skin and magical powers.
